User experience for mobile payment services. What’s important?

Following the post about Eyeline Financial Service Delivery Platform (FSDP) let’s talk about user experience. User experience is most vital thing, besides security and costs, which defines a technology’s suitability for mobile money transfers. Not only great user experience is essential for developing countries, where people have poor education. It is also true for any place in the world. It’s all about fast, convenient and intuitive experience that makes adaptability of the technology among consumers very easy and improves the chances of its success.

What is a great user experience for financial service? It is:

  • Smooth workflow. It is how easy a user can achieve a required task.
  • Interactivity. Does a user have to guess what’s going to happen next when he/she presses “send” button? Then wait for ages to get a response from the system without knowing what’s going on? The system should always appropriately react to users’ actions and engage them so they intuitively can use a service.
  • Availability. What is required to start using the service? Ideally it should be just a GSM mobile phone. Visiting offices to get a special SIM card or acquire technology-enabled phones are necessities which ruin the chances of technology’s adoption even before it has been tried.

And that is what FSDP can provide as a platform. It is based on USSD technology which in terms of user experience follows one basic rule – less is more. USSD is not something you have to install on your mobile device. It’s like SMS, used for transmitting information over GSM networks. The difference is that the exchange of information takes place during a real-time session. It brings interactivity that engages a user and helps complete a task in the shortest time possible.

Initiation of the session and navigation is accessible for every person who can dial a phone number – to start the session a user dials a short number and presses “call” button. Then navigation through menus is done by “number” buttons. It can’t be easier, really.

Works on 99% mobile devices, interactive and user-friendly. What else? FSDP comes with Eyeline Mobilizer which helps easily integrate financial services or create new one from scratch. It has all necessary built-in modules for interworking with FSDP: automatic support of USSD/SMS, iPhone, Mobile WEB, Android, Java2ME; support of mobile transactions; support of FSDP statistics. FSDP gives great user experience both for end-users and developers.
